Avengers: Doomsday is coming in December. Here's what to watch first
You don't need all thirty-odd Marvel films. These are the ones that matter before the next Avengers.
Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on 18 December 2026, with Robert Downey Jr. back in the Marvel universe, this time as the villain Doctor Doom. If you stepped away from Marvel after Endgame, or never really started, you don’t need to watch everything. Here’s the short version.
The essentials
- The Avengers (2012). The team comes together. Still the most fun of the lot.
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). Marvel’s best standalone film, and it changes everything that follows.
- Captain America: Civil War (2016). The team breaks apart.
- Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Watch them back to back. This is the end of the first great Marvel story, and the start of everything since.
If you have more time
Our Infinity Saga watch order has all twenty-three films in release order, each linked to its page with scores from IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.
